Reawakening

The news broke that 12 Thai boys and their coach were trapped. They had gone down a cave, as part of some kind of initiation, never expecting the weather to change and to get trapped underground. They were there for nearly 3 weeks. One diver lost his life trying to help rescue them. Eventually all 13 were rescued.More than 1,000 people from 18 countries worked together to help with the rescue effort. The mission to rescue them was meticulously planned and thought through. The best divers, engineers and other specialists gathered to help. The whole world was routing for and pulling together for these boys. It felt as though the world was holding its breath awaiting rescue news.

How many of us were thinking that if we were needed, if we could help, we’d go?

The world ‘woke up’, pulses were racing, breaths were being held, as we waited for good news. You could sense that people were on the edge of their seats, taking part in willing all to live.

Why did it take, does it take, a disaster to see such overwhelming worldwide coming together for good? A common good goal bought the masses together. A goal awakens people. A goal awakens a person.

When I think about this it reminds me of how we can be. If we lose direction for our lives, purpose for our lives, it can seem like something inside of us has fallen asleep, but we awaken, or reawaken, when we feel we have direction and purpose.

Do you feel like you’ve lost direction, purpose, the day is just another day? Worse still do you find yourself living for Fridays, for the weekends, the next holiday? Take time this week and think about one small change you could make that reawakens your passion for life, passion for others. Did you once have a dream, but dropped out? It’s not too late. Did you once have a role that didn’t have you hankering for the weekend? Maybe don’t give up your current job, but how can you pick up on that in some small way, to begin, now? Did you ever hear God telling you to do something and you did something else? It’s not too late to turn it around.

The Bible tells us God has a plan and a purpose for each one of us: ‘”For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”’  (Jeremiah 29:11)

Commit to making one small step today in the right direction and do it. Just as the world ‘woke up’ to this situation with the Thai boys, reawaken your dreams, your goals, your passion, your purpose.
