A Lesson from a Crime Scene: Leaving Your Mark

At a crime scene the police check for fingerprints.

According to the dictionary ‘a fingerprint is a mark left by the friction ridges of a human finger’. Did you know that wherever you go, you leave fingerprints? You leave marks. This is what God wants you to do. He wants you to go through life leaving your mark on the lives of the people in your world.

This is how it works. God leaves his mark on us so we can leave our marks on other people.

This is what happened with Paul, back in Bible times. Paul hated Christians. He was the very first ‘007’ because he was licenced to kill Christians. One day, he was out on a killing spree. During his journey to a place called Damascus, he met God as he travelled along the road. He had a light-bulb moment! That was the point when God left his mark on Paul, and soon after, Paul started to leave his mark on people. He exchanged his licence to kill for a licence to thrill!

Your fingerprints leave a mark. God wants you to do the same! Are you leaving your mark on the lives of the people in your world? What kind of mark are you leaving?

When the police check for fingerprints at a crime scene, they look for ‘patent’ marks, which are visible, and ‘latent’ marks, which are invisible. Is the mark that you’re leaving visible or invisible?

It could be that you’re thinking, ‘That’s me, my mark is invisible. I haven’t really done anything with my life. I’ve had a tough upbringing, I’m an addict, I’ve been abused. There is no way I’ve left my mark.’ Listen, it’s not too late. That can change.

You see, it doesn’t matter where you are right now on your journey. God can meet you, just like he met Paul all those years ago. And when he does leave his mark on you, then you can start to leave a visible mark on people. God has a purpose for your life!

That guy Paul, ended up writing a big part of second half of the Bible! He said that: ‘You’re God’s handiwork, created in Jesus Christ to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do.’

You were created for a purpose. You can leave your mark on the lives of the people in your world. You just need God on your case, so reach out to him!
